Prolapse of Orbital Fat Tissue
Description of the Disease and Clinical Picture
Prolapse of fat tissue in the retrobulbar region can sporadically occur in dogs and cats due to the weakness of the soft orbital tissue. It manifests as a smooth, pink, fluctuating, and painless subconjunctival swelling, sometimes accompanied by enophthalmos, and is most often unilateral.
Therapy
The prolapse of fat tissue is not a problem. Since it can resemble a neoplasm, a biopsy or fine-needle aspiration can be performed for cytological analysis to confirm the diagnosis. If necessary, surgical excision of the prolapsed tissue can be performed.
